Former San Francisco mayor Dianne Feinstein, considered an underdog in her campaign for governor, has surged to a 19-point lead over Democratic opponent John Van de Kamp, a poll released Saturday showed.

The Los Angeles Times poll, prepared for the newspaper's Sunday editions, showed Feinstein leading by 43 percent to 24 percent with 33 percent of Democratic voters undecided in the primary race for the nomination.The former mayor had been considered the underdog since she launched her campaign more than a year ago against Van de Kamp.
