Construction on a 69-kilovolt, 14-mile-long electrical line to Washington City is scheduled to begin March 15, the Intermountain Consumer Power Association says.

Association spokeswoman Alene Bentley said the line will run from the Washington City substation to a switchyard along St. George's Telegraph Road. The $169,000 contract is carried out by Irby Construction of Salt Lake City.The line is part of a $19 million project designed to improve electric utility service in southern Utah. Project participants include St. George, Washington City, Enterprise, Hurricane and Santa Clara municipal electric utilities and Dixie-Escalante Rural Electric Association.
