Salt Lake City resident Ted Crawford has announced he's running as a Republican for House District 27, which includes the area just south, west and southeast of

the University of Utah.Crawford was born in Castle Dale and graduated from Utah State University in 1948.

He has served in the Utah Department of Agriculture, as the executive secretary of the Utah Cattlemen's Association, director of agriculture relations for the CNA Insurance Co., and finally as a private insurance broker.

"This is my first venture into a race for political office," he said.

"But I believe I have the education, broad background, diversified experience, mature judgment and intense desire to make this venture a success. I am in this race to win."

Crawford challenges the incumbent, Rep. David Jones, D-Salt Lake.

Crawford is married to the former Helen Bell and for 35 years they have lived on Yalecrest Avenue in Salt Lake City.
