Private contributions to both gifts and research projects at the University of Utah increased significantly in March.
The U. Institutional Council received reports Monday showing private grants and contracts totaling $9,471,505, compared with $2,276,135 for the same month last year.For the year to date, the total was $34,302,989 - also significantly more than the 1989 through-March total of $28,840,135.
Research, instructional, clinical and other awards totaled $11,272,652 for the month, compared with $9,262,551 for March 1989, reports showed. For the year to date, collections in the categories totaled $72,081,138, while donations for the same period in 1989 were $64,329,924.
U. President Chase N. Peterson said he believes the increase in gifts to the University indicates that the institution is healthy and reflecting a positive image to the public it serves.
