A bank has filed a $25,000 civil lawsuit against congressional candidate John L. Harmer, seeking repayment of a loan made last fall.

Utah Bank and Trust is seeking the $25,300 it loaned Harmer in October, in addition to interest and court costs, according to the suit filed March 29 in 2nd District Court.Harmer could not be reached for comment Thursday, but a spokesman at his campaign headquarters said negotiations to repay the loan and settle the suit are nearly complete.

According to the suit, the bank loaned Harmer the money on a 30-day, non-collateral basis. The money was to go to a business Harmer owns in California, where he previously lived and served one year as lieutenant governor.

Harmer, a Republican, has filed for the 3rd congressional seat being vacated by incumbent Rep. Howard Nielson, R-Provo.
