Our dear husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, Thomas Brinton Neff, age 83, passed away peacefully, April 11, 1990, in Salt Lake City, Utah, following several strokes.
Born on Easter Sunday, March 31, 1907, in East Millcreek, Utah, to Samuel and Zua Brinton Neff. Married Alice May Wright, September 12, 1938, in the Salt Lake L.D.S. Temple. Tom attended Granite High School and the University of Utah. Active High Priest in the L.D.S. Church, he served in many positions, including counselor to Bishop Sydney J. Ottley in the East Millcreek Ward, first Bishop of the Garden Heights Ward and served on three Stake High Councils. Following his retirement in 1973 he was called (April 1974) to preside over the New York/New York City Mission. He was also a temple worker in the Salt Lake Temple. Life member of the Sons of the Utah Pioneers, East Mill Creek Mills Chapter. He owned and operated Neff's, Inc., in Murray for many years. He helped organize and was the first president of the Murray Chamber of Commerce; and has served on the board of directors of Valley Bank. He is well known throughout the valley for his delicious peaches, tomatoes and other fruits and vegetables.Survivors include his wife, Alice; five sons, Thomas L. (wife Linda), Robert W. (wife Alice), Gerald W. (wife Barbara), Edwin W. (wife Linda) and William W. (wife Renee') Neff; 21 grandchildren (three of whom are currently serving L.D.S. Missions); four brothers, Lawrence B., Steven B., Branson B. and Grant B. Neff; two sisters, Zua N. Cram and Kathryn Neff; and a sister-in-law, Louise R. Neff (wife of the late Samuel B. Neff). In addition to Samuel, Thomas was preceded in death by David B. and John Neff.
Funeral services will be, Monday, April 16th, 12 noon, at the Garden Heights South Ward, 2220 Fisher Lane (2935 So.) with Bishop Bradley M. Clawson officiating. Friends may call Sunday evening from 6 to 8 at the Holbrook Funeral Chapel, 3251 So. 2300 East, and at the church on Monday for one hour prior to the services. Interment: Sunset Lawn Memorial Park.
