A screening of "Retracing Steps: American Dance Since Post-modernism" will be presented Thursday by the Utah Media Arts Center and Repertory Dance Theater.

The film, produced and directed by Michael Blackwood, includes interviews and rehearsal and performance footage featuring several choreographers, including Stephen Petronio, Jim Self, Bill T. Jones, Diane Martel, Wendy Perron, Molissa Fenley, Arnie Zane, Blondel Cummings and Johanna Boyce. The focus is on the "first generation of postmodern choreographers" in the 1980s, which Blackwood says is when dancers began to "wrestle and juggle, dance to pop music and poetry, tell stories, play characters, wear elegant or outrageous costumes, make political statements and embark on open-ended collaborations with artists in other media."

The film will be shown at 8 p.m. Thursday in the Salt Lake Art Center auditorium, 20 S. West Temple. Admission is $4. For further information phone 534-1158.
