Richard Harold Child, 76, of Salt Lake City, passed away Monday, April 16, 1990 of a brief illness.
Born January 22, 1914 in Salt Lake City to George Newport and Julia Alleman Child. He married Virgie Monnoch June 8, 1940 in Ogden; later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
He was an executive of ZCMI for 41 years, 1937-1979. During that time he was a divisional merchandise manager. From 1976-79, he was a store manager of the Cache Valley Mall ZCMI.
He was a High Priest in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served on the High Council and also as a stake clerk of the Holladay Stake. He served on the High Council of the Holladay South Stake. He was first counselor in the Holladay 21st Ward bishopric and ward clerk of the Holladay 25th Ward. He was a temple ordinance worker and D.I. Rehabilitation service worker.
He was on numerous civic boards and committees and gave many hours of civic voluntteer service. He was a graduate of East High School, the U. of U., and he received a Master's degree from Harvard Business School.
He is survived by a son and two daughters, James R. Child; Mrs. Larry V. (Susan) Lunt, Salt Lake City; Mrs. J. Douglas (Joan) Gibb, Orem; 15 grandchildren; two half-sisters, Mrs. Don (Florence) Lambert, Salt Lake City; Mrs. Kenneth (Edith) Myers, Fort Duchesne. Preceded in death by his wife, Virgie; and a grandson.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Friday, April 20, at the Holladay 25th Ward Chapel, 4650 Naniloa Drive (2970 E.). Friends may call Thursday, 6-8 p.m. at MacKay Cottonwood Mortuary, 4670 Highland Drive, and Friday, one hour prior at the church. Interment, Wasatch Lawn.
