The son of a former Panamanian president has been arrested on charges he threatened to kill President Bush in retaliation for the American invasion of his country, the Secret Service said.

Otto Demetrio Lakas, 21, a Lubbock Christian University student and the son of former Panamanian President Demetrio B. Lakas, allegedly walked into a Lubbock pawn shop April 2 and said he wanted to purchase a handgun in order to shoot the president, Secret Service special agent John Steven Barker said in an affidavit filed Tuesday.Lakas, who was arrested Tuesday afternoon at his girlfriend's apartment, was being held without bond Wednesday at the Lubbock County Jail, authorities said. A hearing was set for Tuesday.
