Alfred Rowe Boyd, 84, of Provo, died April 18, 1990, at the Utah Valley Regional Medical Center in Provo.
He was born February 14, 1906 a son of Edward and Flora Ellis Boyd in Salt Lake City. He married Helen Carlson in 1926, they were divorced July of 1938. He then married Imogene Capitola June 22, 1941. He worked for Utah Oil. He worked for the Salt Lake City Police Department as an investigator from 1932 to 1940. He worked for the U.S. Secret Service as a bodyguard, for many presidents, he then was a personal body guard of Dean Rusk, Secretary of State, he retired in 1971. He also served in the U.S. Air Force from 1942-1945 in Indo-China retiring as a Lt. Colonel. He was a member of the LDS Church, holding the position of High Priest.Survivors include his wife of Provo, two sons and three daughters, William A. Boyd of Salt Lake City; Keith Edward Boyd of Mesa, Arizona; Mrs. Bradford (Bonnie) Allen of Sacramento, California; Mrs. Edgar William (Carrie Mae) Barber, and Mrs. Stratton (Peggy) Almond both of Richmond, Virginia. He is also survived by 23 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 21, 1990, 2 p.m., in the Pleasant View 5th Ward Chapel 2450 North 1060 East in Provo. Friends may call one hour prior to the services at the ward chapel. Burial will be in the Spanish Fork Cemetery. Services under the direction of Sundberg-Olpin Mortuary of Orem.
