John Newton Donaldson, age 77, of Moroni, passed away April 17, 1990, at a Salt Lake hospital after a valiant battle with cancer.
Born in Spring City, Utah, Dec. 24, 1912, to David and Jane Blain Donaldson. Married Ida Olsen Lund March 8, 1963, in the Manti LDS Temple.Graduated from North Sanpete High School. Served as a captain in the U.S. Army in the European Theatre during World War II. Retired from Moroni Feed Company after 32 years as assistant manager and controller. Served eight years as Sanpete County commissioner. Served as president of the State Association of Counties and as chairman of the Six-County Commissioners Association.
Member of the LDS Church. Recently released after serving 26 years as Moroni Stake Clerk under three stake presidencies. Member of Moroni Lions Club, Moroni Senior Citizens, and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Spent his life in helping others.
Survivors include: Wife, Moroni; stepchildren, David A. Lund, Poway, Calif.; Elaine Lund Dransfield, Wellsville, Utah; Kathleen Lund Larsen, Orem, Utah; brothers and sister, Don Donaldson, Glen Donaldson, both of Spring City; Odell Donaldson, Magna; Beulah Mickel, Layton; many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by parents, and sisters, Marie Ball and Elouise Donaldson.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 21, at 1 p.m., in the Moroni LDS Stake Center, 82 No. Center, Moroni. Viewing will be Friday evening, 7 to 9 p.m., at the Ursenbach Funeral Home, 96 No. 100 West, Mt. Pleasant, and 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Saturday, at the Moroni LDS Stake Center. Military burial will be in the Moroni City Cemetery under VFW Post 9276.
Family suggests donations in his name be made to the Snow College Scholarship Fund or the American Cancer Society.
