The South Sanpete School District Board of Education has approved using the 2-mill property tax levy authorized by the 1990 State Legislature for class size reduction.

The 2-mill levy, however, will be offset by a 2-mill reduction in the levy for capital outlay and debt service, so that the district property owners will see no increase in their property taxes for school purposes. The 2-mill levy, based on current property evaluations, will raise an estimated $55,031, according to Paul Gottfredson, district business administrator.

Because South Sanpete is a district with one of the lowest per student property tax evaluations in the state, it will also enable the district to qualify for an additional $97,053 in state money for class size reduction.
