SHARE SMALL RENOIR PAINTING VALUED AT $158,000 IS STOLEN IN JAPAN

A small oil painting by Pierre Auguste Renoir has been stolen from a gallery in Nagoya, central Japan, police said Friday.

Although the painting's official title was not immediately available, an English translation of its Japanese title reads "Young Girl's Head." It was painted by the French artist in 1908 and was estimated to be worth $158,000.Police said the work, which measures 4-by-41/2 inches, had been on display at the Nichido Gallery in Nagoya since Sunday. The theft was discovered Wednesday.
