William Verl Whiting, age 75, died Friday, April 27, 1990 in Provo following a lingering illness.

Born June 22, 1914 to James William and Emma Beulah Child Whiting. Married Patricia Lodge June 10, 1938 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Attended schools in Springville where he held responsible leadership positions, including representative on the student council in Jr. High, President of the Freshman Class, cheerleader, and Student Body President, 1931-32. Graduated from Seminary and BYU majoring in accounting and business with a minor in mathematics. He was a partner in the Whiting and Haymond Construction Co., 1938-71. Served as president of the Jr. Chamber of Commerce and was awarded the Distinguished Service Award in 1944. He was on the board of directors of the Chamber of Commerce, vice president of Kiwanis, group executive officer and group commander in the Utah Wing of the Civil Air Patrol during WW II. He held a private pilots license and attained the rank of captain in 1948. He was finance chairman for the Springville Boy Scouts, and spent many years assisting in the Scouting program where he received the Eagle Award. Very active in church, serving as YMMIA Secretary, financial clerk, genealogical committee; he served as a counselor to Bishop Glenn A Tipton of the Springville 4th Ward. He was president of the Whiting Family Organization.When the construction company was dissolved in 1971 he worked in the financial dept. at BYU for five years. Then he and sister Whiting were called to serve a special auditing mission for the LDS Church, where he assisted with audits of mission homes, college institutes, remodeling of temples, and the temple in Sau Paulo, Brazil.

Survived by wife; two daughters and two sons, Mrs. Don (Sydna) Strong, Springville; Mrs. David (Patricia Ann) Walter, Glendale, Ariz.; David L. Whiting; and Wendell C. Whiting, Salt Lake City; 13 grandchildren; sister, Mrs. Robert L. Springmeyer, Salt Lake City; and brother, Harold J. Whiting, Springville.

Funeral services Tuesday, 11 a.m., Spring Creek 7th Ward Chapel, 550 North 250 East, Springville. Friends may call at Wheeler Mortuary, 211 East 200 South, Monday, 6-8 p.m., or Tuesday, 9:30-10:30 a.m. Burial, Evergreen Cemetery.
