While Provo city debates the rules that should apply to research parks, Riverfront Properties has for the time being withdrawn its request for a zone change to allow creation of a research park in the Riverbottoms neighborhood.
Dave Gardner, agent for Riverfront Properties, said in a letter to Leland Gamette, city director of community development, "With the work you and your staff are doing to develop a true research and technology park designation, we feel we would be better served to wait" until a research-park designation is included in the city zoning ordinance.Gardner said the withdrawal should not be construed to mean that Riverfront Properties has abandoned the goal of developing a research and business park on its Riverbottoms property.
"We are still committed to the concept that such a park is needed, is in the best interest of the city and will be a good thing for the neighborhood," Gardner's letter says.
