The University of Miami hired Oklahoma State coach Leonard Hamilton as its basketball coach Monday - making Hamilton the first black head coach at Miami in any sport.

Hamilton, who will replace Bill Foster, developed a reputation as one of the country's best recruiters during his four years at Oklahoma State and the 12 he spent as a University of Kentucky assistant. He and Miami Athletics Director Sam Jankovich agreed to a five-year contract that will pay him $200,000 a year in salary and perks including radio and TV shows, a Nike shoe contract and a basketball camp.
