Up to 500,000 people jammed a 10-block corridor through downtown for what was billed as the country's largest Cinco de Mayo celebration, authorities said.

Police restricted admission three hours before the end of the festival Sunday and closed some of the performance stages briefly to relieve the crush of people gathered together.Police said the giant throng attending the Fiesta Broadway, estimated at 400,000 to 500,000 people, was densest around the several stages featuring Hispanic entertainment. At times, shoving matches reportedly broke out amid the tightly packed viewers.

The Fire Department had no reports of calls for help, and police had no reports of injuries.
