A 20-year-old Maracaibo woman gave birth to Venezuela's first recorded sextuplets - two girls and four boys, all in good health, a hospital spokesman said.

The babies were born Tuesday to Elaine Paez de Medina in a Caesarean section at the Paraiso Medical Center, where doctors had monitored the woman's pregnancy since her sixth month of gestation, the hospital spokesman said. Doctors Nerio Inciarte and Henry Fuenmayor headed a team of nurses and assistants that performed the operation.The mother and father, Danilo Medina, 22, an unemployed laborer, have no other children. The couple received congratulations and pledges of support from the government.
