Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi called on Moslems holding Western hostages in Lebanon to release their captives on the occasion of Ramadan, the Moslem month of fasting, Tripoli Radio reported.

The state-owned radio quoted Gadhafi Wednesday as urging the kidnappers, who are believed to be pro-Iranian Shiite Moslems, to adhere to the teachings of Islam and Islamic values."Islamic values call for the honoring of human dignity and prohibit the arrest of innocent people," the radio, monitored in Cairo, quoted the Libyan leader as saying.

Kidnappers are holding 18 hostages, including eight Americans, in Lebanon.
