Workers at Pacific States Cast Iron Pipe Co. are in their sixth day of striking, and still no talks are scheduled between company and union officials.
Members of United Steelworkers of America Local 1654 Saturday rejected what company officials said was their last offer. More than 200 workers began striking Sunday. The union wants more control over seniority matters and wants the current two-tier pay system eliminated over the next two years.
Union President Dave Selman said they are ready to resume negotiations anytime and are just waiting to hear from company officials. He expects talks to resume next week. In the meantime, union members will picket the plant 24 hours a day.
Company officials have declined to talk to the press but union members said management and salaried personnel have been making pipe since Tuesday.
