Six states in our region are celebrating their 100th birthdays. The following upcoming events are among those being billed as centennial celebrations.
MONTANAMontana State Fiddlers' Contest in Polson, July 27-28. Competitions and jamming on the streets.
Festival of Nations in Red Lodge, Aug. 4-12. Ethnic groups celebrate their heritage with food, dancing, arts and crafts.
Crow Fair on the Crow Agency, Aug. 1-5. Indian dancing, parades, hand games, crafts and rodeos.
WASHINGTON
Irrigation Festival in Sequim, May 5-13. Logging show, arts & crafts fair, operetta and art show.
Pacific Northwest Arts & Crafts Fair in Bellevue July 27-29. Billed as the region's largest arts and crafts event.
Columbia River Gorge Bluegrass Festival in Stevenson, July 27-29. Local and national bands with on-site camping in Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area.
NORTH DAKOTA
Fort Union Trading Post Rendezvous at Williston, June 14-17. Fur traders, military and Indians recreate the 1830 fur-trader era.
Fort Seward Wagon Train at Jamestown, June 23-30. Authentic wagon train will follow the historic route.
Roughrider Days at Dickinson, July 2-4. Rodeo, parade, horse and tractor pulls, barn dances, demolition derby and water show.
SOUTH DAKOTA
Black Hills Powwow at Rapid City, July 6-8. Indians from across North America compete in singing/dancing contests and display traditional arts and crafts.
Gold Discovery Days in Custer, July 26-29. Black Hills history pageant, three-mile parade, ice cream social, street fair, balloon rally and volksmarch.
Threshing Jamboree in Madison, Aug. 24-26. A reconstructed pioneer town hosts steam-and-horse-powered threshing, flea markets, parades, train rides and pioneer demonstrations.
IDAHO
Timber! at Lewiston, May 11-13. Grand world finals of the traditional logging games.
National Oldtime Fiddlers' Contest in Weiser, June 17-23. Daytime preliminaries and national championships every night.
Centennial Whistle Stop Tour through southern Idaho from June 27-July 4. Union Pacific will bring an 844 steam locomotive through Idaho.
WYOMING
Cheyenne/Deadwood State Route Historical Tour through Goshen County. Guided tours of historic ranches, mines and prehistoric sites ongoing through 1990.
Old West Rodeo in Cody, May 26-28, will feature teams from all over the state.
Washakie Days Fair & Rodeo in Ten Sleep, July 31-Aug. 11. Cattle drive, campfire programs, Wild West Rodeo, county fair and carnival.
