SHARE SHARP TOOL INC. NAMED YEAR’S TOP SUBCONTRACTOR

Sharp Tool Inc., an Ogden company specializing in precision machining of tooling, fixtures, small assemblies and components, has been named subcontractor of the year for Region 8 of the Small Business Administration.

The company received an SBA administrator's award of excellence during Small Business Week activities in Washington, D.C. The company also competed for national subcontractor of the year honors. Julie Johnson is company president.Sharp was nominated for the honor by Thiokol Corp. and won over other companies in Region 8, which includes Utah, Colorado, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wyoming.

According to Stan Nakano, SBA district director for Utah, the company was founded in 1985 and provides expertise in working with rubber, Teflon, nylon, plastics, stainless steel and zirconium. The firm also has expanded to offer container manufacturing in wood and metal.

Since 1985 the company has grown from four to 10 employees and gross sales have increased more than 200 percent. Helping Johnson manage the company are sons Brent, vice president and shop foreman; Rob, secretary and certified machinist; and Rusty, who is involved in the container operation.
