Two men charged with negligent homicide in the drug-overdose death of a Benjamin woman will face a preliminary hearing July 10 in 4th Circuit Court.

The defendants - Russell L. Jensen, 34, Payson, and Richard E. Wilson, 38, Helper - are charged with negligent homicide, a class A misdemeanor, in the death of Michelle Daniels Wilson, 26. The victim, who was married to Richard Wilson, died April 6 from a cocaine-induced heart attack.Investigators say she had many times the lethal amount of cocaine in her blood when she died.

Authorities believe, and the autopsy shows, that she ingested a large amount of cocaine shortly before she and the defendants were stopped at a routine roadblock west of Lehi. Authorities believe she may have taken the cocaine to keep authorities at the roadblock from finding it.

Shortly after the woman and the defendants exited their vehicle after being stopped, the victim became violently ill and began convulsing. She died a short while later after being transported to the hospital.

According to the charges, the defendants acted with criminal negligence in failing to seek medical attention for the woman or to initially admit to authorities that she had taken cocaine.
