Officers took 10 people into custody following a beer-run theft that turned into a brawl.

Coincidentally, the brawl took place at the same apartment complex where 90 minutes earlier a drive-by shooting occurred. The incident began between 5:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. when at least four people entered a store at 2508 S. Redwood Road, said West Valley Sgt. Guy Dodge.

The group grabbed some beer and ran out of the store. At least two employees gave chase.

During the ensuing events, the thieves assaulted the store employees, the chase continued around behind the store and into a nearby apartment complex. There, as many as 10 bystanders entered the fray on behalf of the employees, Dodge said.

No one was injured sufficiently in the scuffle to warrant transport to the hospital, but some were treated at the scene for minor injuries.

Ten people were taken into custody, but at least one of the thieves remains at large.

The fight apparently has no relationship to the drive-by shooting that occurred in front of the complex shortly after 4 p.m. At least 10 shots were fired by two unknown assailants from a stopped car. Apparently, no one was injured. No one has been taken into custody.
