The West Jordan City Council voted 3-2 Tuesday night to keep funding of $45,000 for a full-time mayor position in its 1990-91 tentative budget and let voters decide if that's what they want.

On May 23, 1989, a straw poll was taken among 2,227 people. Of those, 1,303 favored a part-time mayor and 924 favored a full-time mayor. The proposal would not change the current council-city manager form of government. It would only elevate the mayor to full time.

Mayor Ken Miller now serves part time and is a voting member of the council. The acting city manager, who serves full time, is in charge of the daily city affairs.

Miller earns $845 a month, or $10,140 a year. His salary would increase to $3,750 a month, or $45,000 a year.

No date was set for the election.
