Dr. Boyd G. Holbrook, a retired orthopedic physician and chairman of the State Industrial Commission's Medical Advisory Committee for six years, has received the commission's first Outstanding Achievement Award in Worker's Compensation.
Commission Chairman Stephen M. Hadley presented the award to Holbrook during the first seminar on worker's compensation. Hadley said the award and seminar will become annual events.Holbrook, who also is a member of the Worker's Compensation Advisory Council, was cited for his work on Utah's system for regulating medical fees and charges in cases of people injured on the job.
He also was instrumental in creating the medical panel system in Utah. Hadley said medical panels are convened to determine an injured worker's disability when a doctor for the insurance carrier and a doctor for the injured worker cannot agree.
