Sulvanus J. Vean Postma, died Saturday May 19, 1990at the Logan Regional Hospital of a cerebral hemmorrhage.

He was born September 8, 1912 in Smithfield, Ut a son of Beense William and Julia Ann Collett Postma. He married Stella Carlson June 2, 1936 in the Logan LDS Temple. He was a 1935 graduate of Utah State University in Business Administration. He was commissioned a 2nd Lt. in the Coast Artillery Reserves. After marriage, he became owner and manager of farm property in Northern Box Elder County, UT and southern Idaho. He also was partner and manager of the Logan Laundry and Dry Cleaners until his retirement in 1988. He had been active in Civic and Church affairs. He was a former State Legislator, Mayor of River Heights, Member of the Logan City School Board, Chairman of the Utah State Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Committee for two terms, Member of the Boards of Directors of the Utah-Idaho Farmers Grain Cooperative for 40 years and of the Logan Savings and Loan for 20 years. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club and the Logan Golf and Country Club. He had been a Bishop of three wards of the LDS Church and a member of the Stake High Council, and a Patriarch in the Providence Utah Stake. He was a member of the Green Valley 2nd ward, St. George West Stake.Survivors: Wife of St. George; four sons; Richard W. Postma, Littleton, CO; David J. Postma, Hyrum, UT; Steven J.Postma, Sandy, UT; Stanley S. Postma, Bountiful, UT; two daughters; Mrs John (Julie) Martin, Half Moon Bay, CA; Mrs F. Kim (Mary) Hancock, Menlo Park, CA. Sister; Mrs Louis F. (Grace) Pierce, River Heights, UT.25 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 22, 1990 at 12:00 Noon in the Allen-Hall Mortuary Chapel (34 E. Center, Logan) Friends may call Monday evening from 7 to 9pm and one hour prior to services. Burial in the Logan City Cemetery.
