SHARE STATE MATH CONTEST ANNOUNCES WINNERS

Winners have been announced in the 1990 Utah State Math Contest, which drew more than 3,600 students from across the state to Brigham Young University.

The contest, which tests the mathematical skills of junior high and high school students, has been growing since its inception more than 10 years ago.Cash awards, trophies and other gifts were presented to the top five students from each division. Scholarships were offered to outstanding seniors to Utah State, BYU and the University of Utah.

Each school selected up to 20 top math students to participate in the contest.

Winners from the senior division include Rob Westover of Timpview High School in Provo, 12th grade; Michael Durham from Timpview High School, 11th grade; and David Landon from West High School in Salt Lake City, 10th grade.

In the junior division, Peter Avery from Timpview High School finished first in the ninth grade. Shane Hathaway from Brockbank Junior High School in Magna won the eighth-grade division, and Brandon Larsen from Eastmont Middle School in Sandy was the top performer in the seventh grade.
