A fire that caused more than $10,000 damage to a Holladay-area apartment early Tuesday remains under investigation by the Salt Lake County Fire Department.

Firefighters were dispatched to 1482 E. Sandpiper about 1:40 a.m. and found the roof of an apartment engulfed in flames. Most of the damage was confined to the roof, though there was an estimated $1,000 damage to the contents of the apartment. While the cause of the fire remains under investigation, a department spokesman said contractors had been working on a new roof Monday afternoon. The roofers left behind a propane bottle that facilitated the rapid spread of the fire.

It took firefighters 12 minutes to bring the fire under control.

Neither the occupants of the apartment nor the firefighters were injured in the blaze.
