Composite scores on the Iowa Tests of Basic Skills ranged from nine to 18 points ahead of the national average. The scores also are comparable to the averages achieved in high socioeconomic areas, the report indicates. In January, the tests were given to all of the district's second-, fourth- and sixth-graders. In the younger grades, achievement scores were gathered in reading and math. Older grades received additional testing in vocabulary, languages and work study. The test scores were combined to create the composite score for that grade level.
