Personnel Pool, a temporary help service chain, has opened an office in Independence Square, 111 E. 5600 South, Suite 200.

The firm will provide full-service secretarial, word-processing, PC operators, marketing, para-technical and light-industrial personnel for area businesses as well as employment opportunities for residents of the Salt Lake City area.Personnel Pool is an affiliate of H & R Block, Inc., and the subsidiary is one of the largest suppliers of temporary services in the U.S. The company has 500 locations nationwide.

The Salt Lake outlet is owned by R. Jan Thurston, who has 20 years of experience in recruiting qualified applicants for Brigham Young University and the University of Phoenix.

Thurston, who has lived in Salt Lake City for the past 17 years, was formerly president of the Murray Chamber of Commerce and is active in the Rotary Club and United Way.

"Changes in business strategies have created tremendous job opportunities. Managers and executives have learned that it often makes better economic sense to augment a core of permanent workers with temporaries, versus hiring additional full-time people, then face excessive layoffs," Thurston said.
