Hillcrest High School student Darren Thomson has been named one of 22 top chemistry students in the country and is a finalist in the competition for the U.S. team to the International Chemistry Olympiad. The announcement was made by the American Chemical Society.
The Olympiad is a series of exams and laboratory work to identify the best high school chemistry students from around the world. Last year in Halle, East Germany. This year's team will compete in Paris, France, from July 8-17.Four students will be selected from the 22 finalists for the U.S. team. The finalists were selected from 730 outstanding high school students nationwide who were chosen from an original pool of about 10,000 students. They will meet next month at the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs for a 12-day study camp, June 10-23, to select the four top students for the American team.
