Special Olympians from Blanding, San Juan County, join others from around the state Thursday in Provo to participate in the 20th Utah Special Olympics Summer Games. The athletes _ 1,400 in all _ are participating in three days of competition in events ranging from soccer, bowling, softball and races to pentathlon and shot put. The Utah Special Olympics gives mentally handicapped competitors an opportunity to develop physical fitness skills and undertake challenges while participating in Olympic-type sports. Competitions will continue through Saturday at Brigham Young University and at other locations in Provo.
