Timpview High School seniors proved to themselves by graduating Thursday night that they have the ability to succeed, as well as the power to reach their goals.
Principal Kay W. Laursen, evoking the school's Thunderbird mascot, told graduates that they are T-birds ready to fly into the world and be successful. "Each of you has the ability to succeed."Student speakers said life is a voyage of discovery and that graduates should emphasize the journey as they seek their goals.
"Life is indeed a journey with the emphasis on the traveling, not the destination," said Kristin Cundick. "Sorry, folks, but during the past 13 years of school, we've only been packing. It's time to leave."
Jason R. Kerr told graduates that true success is not measured merely by what they achieve. "Instead, it is measured by what you are and what you become through the process of achieving," he said.
"As the class of 1990, let's accept who we are and the successes we've had, and decide what we're going to do," added Chad Kay.
"Let's take the first, very important step into our future. It only takes the first step to begin one of these professions or adventures."
Camille D. Price said graduates have been endowed the past four years with knowledge and skills needed to take that first step forward, even though their future paths and goals may be unclear.
"We will not have the great support groups we have had the last four years," she said. "This makes life again seem both exciting and frightening, but we have been prepared well."
Joel D. Wright encouraged graduates to seek continued success as they strive to make the world a better place. On their death beds, he asked, "Will you be thinking, `I did,' or will you be thinking, `I wish I did?' "
