Memorial Day could be a very pleasant day for picnics and other outdoor recreation; then again, things could be all wet.

Ken Labas, a forecaster for the National Weather Bureau's Salt Lake office, said northern Utah will likely see increasing chances of showers on Sunday with an even greater threat on Monday, Memorial Day.Compared to Thursday's blustery gusts, however, Monday will be relatively calm.

Friday's high was expected to reach into the mid-60s with little or no significant wind, Labas said. Temperatures should reach into the low 70s on Saturday and then remain constant in the low to mid-70s for the next few days. Overnight lows will be in the low 40s.

Labas said the greatest chance of showers remains in the northern half of the state.

What was expected to be a fairly significant storm Thursday unexpectedly turned north in early afternoon, dropping most of its moisture in the west desert area before moving into Idaho. South Jordan did manage to pick up .2 inches of rain before the shift, while most other Salt Lake valley reporting stations measured less than one-tenth of an inch.
