KRCL radio (FM-90.9) wants to invite everyone to "Your Day in the Park," a free celebration of community radio, Saturday, June 2, 1-8 p.m. at Salt Lake's Liberty Park, 900 S. 1300 East.

A host of local non-profit organizations will be serving an international array of food at the celebration, and local artists and musicians will be performing throughout the afternoon. Music will include bluegrass, gospel, rock, blues, old-time and rap music. There will also be appearances by dancers, jugglers and face painters. Admission is free.There will also be opportunities to purchase used books and records as well as T-shirts and ice cream during the day's events.

KRCL is a non-profit community radio station and hosts this "Day in The Park" annually to show appreciation for strong community support.

(BU) KCPX (FM-98.7) - Evening personality Tom Timmons celebrates his first anniversary at the station on May 31.

Timmons came to KCPX from Hartford, Conn.

(BU) KDYL (AM-1280) will air "Those Fabulous Fifties," with Ron Baxley, Sunday, May 27, from 3-4 p.m.

On Monday, May 28, the station will present "Memorial Day: The Words and Music of America's Wars." This special begins at 1 p.m. and continues until 1 a.m. It will feature songs that were popular during war years, as well as newsclips and famous voices of the past.

9 a.m. - "Hometalk" program will feature "Understanding Tillers, Mowers and Other Gas-Driven Vehicles." Cecil Sellers, a small-engine technician, will be the show's guest.

10 a.m. - The "Auto-Medic" show will offer "Free Advice and Answers to Your Car Questions" by Larry Barlage, automotive specialist for Salt Lake Community College.

(BU) KUER (FM-90.1) - will present "New Orleans, Live!" on Monday, May 28, from 7 p.m. until 1 a.m.

The program will feature the hot sounds of the 1990 New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival.

(BU) FM RADIO TURNS 40 - Frequency modulation celebrated its 40th birthday last week. May 20, 1940, is the date generally credited as the big day. The first experimental FM station was W2XMN, in Alpine, N.J.

FM was used as the standard method of communication on the battlefield for the United States during World War II.

A big boost for commercial FM radio came in 1965 when the FCC ruled that all AM radio stations had to break off simulcasts with their FM counterparts.

Today, there are 5,720 FM stations in America. There are 49 FM radio stations in Utah, including 26 between Ogden and Provo.
