Nelson Mandela, released from a South African jail three months ago after 28 years as a political prisoner, has agreed to write his memoirs for Little, Brown and Company, the publisher has announced.

The book will be both a political memoir and Mandela's personal story, from his childhood through his years in prison to his continuing struggle to reshape South Africa's political system, the publisher said."We don't know how or where this book will end," a spokesman for the publisher said in a statement. "This is not a man in retirement."
