Everybody likes to get something for nothing, and a New York-based organization gives away nearly 5 million sample-pack boxes of consumer products every year.
The packages are given away on the nation's airlines, bus lines and through rental car agencies. They include such items as analgesics, health-and-beauty aids, candies, gum, snacks, mints, moisturizers and even sample razors.Many try the samples even before they leave their airplane or other travel conveyance, according to a survey taken by executives of SampleAir Inc., the sponsoring organization.
More than 75 percent said they open their samples of gum, mints, snacks and candies almost immediately, while a similar percentage of women acknowledged using the moisturizers and sample fragrances even before the journey was completed.
Sample toothpaste and toothbrushes also are very popular. More than 90 percent of those interviewed said they would use the samples some time during the overall trip.
