The Idaho Cattle Association will oppose any attempt to reintroduce wolves to Yellowstone National Park and central Idaho, including a plan proposed by Sen. James McClure, the group's leaders say.

Meeting this week in Pocatello, association members discussed a bill the Idaho Republican introduced in the Senate Tuesday that would allow the introduction of three breeding pairs of wolves to Yellowstone and three more in the 2-million-acre central Idaho back country.Wolf range there would include the Frank Church River of No Return and Selway-Bitterroot wilderness areas and the Salmon National Forest, according to McClure's plan.

The measure also includes provisions to remove the animal's federal endangered species status if they leave the reintroduction areas, allowing state wildlife agencies to manage wolves straying from specified boundaries.
