Our loving mother, grandmother, daughter, and sister died in the Aurora Presbyterian Hospital in Aurora, Colorado on May 24, 1990 after a valiant fight with cancer.
Earlene V. Hopkins Stewart was born December 12, 1932 in Yantley, Alabama to John Lee and Mary Cameron. She was educated in Alabama and furthered her education at Long Beach City College, Long Beach, California. She raised her entire family in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was a longtime active and dedicated member of the Calvary Baptist Church, a lifetime active member of the NAACP receiving their President's Award for Distinguished Community Service, in 1973, and was selected as the Mother of the Year in 1973. She was employed for twelve years with the Salt Lake City Police Dept., as a PBX operator and as a teachers aide with the Salt Lake School Dstrict, before settling in Denver, Colorado in 1984. there she was employed by the college for Financial Planning as an Examination Evaluation Assistant. She enjoyed her position and her very close and warm associations with the college personnel.She was united in holy matrimony to J.B. Stewart September 26, 1975. She was a devoted mother to her six children, one daughter and five sons: Sylvia M. and James D. Morris, Gregory and Wendy Hopkins, Wayne Hopkins, Harold Hopkins, Kenneth B. and Leslee Wright-Hopkins, and Anthony Hopkins; and a special `dear' to her four grandchildren, one grandson and three granddaughters: Cedric J. Morris, Taedra J. Morris, LaShell I. Wright-Hopkins and Brittnee A. Wright-Hopkins.
Mom united with Macedonia Baptist Church August, 1984 and was a faithful dedicated and active member until her death. She loved her life in Denver and had many special , dear and close friends. She was a member of the Lydia Circle #8, the Educational Resource Committee and participated in the young people's tutorial program.
Her faith in God never waivered and we drew on her strength in God. `Mom, you will be with us in our hearts forever. We know you have gone home to your Heavenly Father. We love you.'
She leaves to celebrate her homegoing: her spouse; children and grandchildren; mother, Mary B. Cameron, Yantley, Ala; eight brothers: Thomas K. And Willie F., Cincinnati, OH; John Lewis and Charles E., Long Beach, Calif.; Thomas B., Chicago, Ill.; Ernest, Laurel, Miss.; Wesley L., Dorchester, Ma.; Richard C., Bronx, N.Y.; five sisters: Lillie M. Raibon, Portland, Oregon; Claree Hearn, Laurel, Miss.; Doris Williams, Salt Lake City; Josephine Spear and Patricia James, Yantley Ala.; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Her father preceded her in death.
Friends may call 2-6 p.m. in Denver, Colorado, May 28, 1990. Funeral directors, Pipkin Mortuary, 2531 Ogden Avenue, Denver, Colo. Services will be held May 31, 1990 in Salt Lake City, at 2 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church, 532 East South Temple, with Reverend France A. Davis, officiating.
