More than 5,000 Scouting-age youths and their adult leaders in central, southern and eastern Utah are making plans to attend a massive Scout encampment this summer at Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area and the Ashley National Forest.

Preparations are under way to register Boy Scouts, Varsity Scouts and Explorers between the ages of 12 and 18 to attend the encampment called the "Gorge-Us Getaway" at Antelope Flat Campground near Dutch John, Utah. The dates of the event are Aug. 8-11."There has never been anything quite like this in our council before," said Getaway Chairman Harold Miller, Provo. "We have held other encampments in previous years, but nothing requiring this kind of extensive planning and logistics."

A camp committee of several dozen Scout leaders from throughout the state began planning this event early last year.

Any interested person who has not received information about the encampment may contact the Utah National Parks Council at 250 W. 500 North, Provo, UT 84603 for registration information and materials.
