A quartet from the environmental group Greenpeace Tuesday scaled a smokestack and a crane to protest the construction of a solid-waste incinerator.

The four climbers unfurled banners from the heights, calling on Gov. Jim Florio to end construction of the mass burners and to push for recycling of waste instead of incineration. The four walked onto the site and began climbing the structures about 3:30 a.m.
