Murray High pitcher-infielder David Madsen has been selected as the state's Gatorade Circle of Champions prep baseball player of the year, joining 45 other similarly honored athletes from 45 states and the District of Columbia.

Batting better than .500 while hitting double-digit home runs for several seasons, Madsen also shined on the mound - losing only one game this season. He helped the Spartans to a Region 6 championship this year and the 1989 3A state championship.
