Brian Harris, 45, the staff legal counsel to Gov. Bob Miller, was suspended for one week without pay Sunday following his arrest on drunken driving charges.
Harris was stopped at a sobriety check point Saturday night on U.S. 50 between Dayton and Carson City. Officers said an on-the-spot Breathalyzer test showed Harris' blood-alcohol measured .1415. A reading of .10 is considered legally drunk in Nevada.Harris was released on $1,100 bail Sunday morning and ordered to appear in court June 6 for arraignment.
Miller's press secretary, Larry Henry, said Sunday, "the governor feels DUI is serious and therefore the one-week suspension without pay was warranted."
The suspension is not mandated by law since Harris was driving his own vehicle on his own time.
Henry said Harris worked all day Saturday at the office and had one drink at home before he and his wife drove to Mia's restaurant in Dayton for dinner. Henry said the attorney then had two glasses of wine with dinner.
