Susan Oliver, a star of the old "Peyton Place" TV series and a veteran of many other shows and movies, has died of cancer. She was 53.

Oliver, also an accomplished private pilot who made a solo trans-Atlantic flight, died at Thursday night at the Motion Picture and Television Hospital.Oliver played Ann Howard in "Peyton Place," a prime-time soap opera that ran from 1964 to 1969 on ABC. Her character was killed off in 1966 by being pushed off a cliff near the fictional New England town. She also appeared on such television shows as "Star Trek" and "The Wild Wild West," and in movies including "Butterfield 8," and "Looking for Love."
