A bill for a 10,172-acre land transfer in Sevier County from the Bureau of Land Management to the Forest Service, has been submitted by Rep. Howard Nielson, R-Utah.

The parcel is in a narrow strip along the west side of Sevier Valley, separated from other BLM lands by I-70 and private lands. It is adjacent to Fishlake National Forest.Nielson told the House National Parks and Public Lands subcommittee that the transfer would improve management of the area.

Rep. Bruce Vento, D-Minn., subcommittee chairman, called the transfer "unusual," but made no objection.

It is supported by both BLM and the Forest Service.
