A smokey fire caused extensive damage to a vacant unit at the Euclid Arms Apartments, 1028 W. Euclid Ave., Sunday night.

Salt Lake Fire Capt. Rennald Egbert said the fire started inside a ground-floor apartment of the 14-unit, two-story complex at about 8:40 p.m. Residents of adjacent units were evacuated, and no one was injured in the fire.Egbert said firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze quickly, confining most of the damage to the unit where the fire began. However, there was some smoke damage to adjacent apartments, he said.

Arson investigators were summoned to the scene, but the cause of the fire had not been determined Sunday night.
