After 12 years of pushing the conservative cause in the U.S. Senate, political maverick Gordon Humphrey is going home to New Hampshire to run for a $100-a-year seat in the state Senate.
Humphrey's run for the part-time job is no surprise to those who watched the former airline pilot and political novice rise to the national forefront of conservatism.Humphrey, 49, calls himself probably the Senate's most outspoken anti-abortion voice, and at times has criticized Presidents Reagan and Bush for not being conservative enough - notably on taxes and sanctions against China.
He said he is running for state office partly because he thinks New Hampshire is straying from its conservative roots.
