State Sen. Lane Beattie, R-Bountiful, has been awarded a Toll Fellowship by the Council of State Governments.

One of 32 Toll fellows, Beattie will participate in a weeklong seminar on policy issues and leadership named in honor of Henry Toll, a Colorado senator who founded the Council of State Governments in 1933.The council is a national non-partisan, non-profit public service organization that serves all branches of state government.

Utah Senate President Arnold Christensen was president of the council last year.

The fellowship is aimed at developing new leaders in state government. Beattie was first elected to the Senate in 1988. He is a real estate broker.
