As for Chapman, she reached national prominence with her album "Twist of Fate," in 1989. That year she was voted "New Artist of the Year" in the European music community and also was named "New Female Vocalist of the Year" by Cashbox magazine.
It was when Chapman's mother died of cancer that she decided to donate time and money to the American Cancer Society.
"It's one of the most important things in my life," she says. "If my name and talent can help bring a cure for cancer, that's one of the most important things to me. We have to help each other."
